Skidmore Contemporary Arts Show

Skidmore Contemporary Arts, Los Angeles CA

October 24 – November 28, 2009

“Sternburg was a pioneer in the use of disposable cameras as instruments for the creation of large-scale images exceeding five feet in height. She was attracted to the humble instrument because “the disposable doesn’t allow the picture-taker to focus, so there can be no intentional depth of field. With that option removed, I suspend preference in favor seeing a larger picture.” Her signature subject matter is reflections in windows where the objects on display mingle with the world behind the photographer, creating what the artist calls a ‘fertile confusion’ between inside and outside, solid and fluid. The exhibition at Skidmore Contemporary Art will include works from her new series shot with an iPhone.”
